Ombak Shawl

"Batik itu Kerja Bakti"

Different part of the world uses different style of technique to produce pattern and motif onto fabric. Bagru, is one of the traditional techniques of printing with natural colour that takes place in a remote area of Rajasthan. Bagru motifs are transferred onto light coloured background with wooden blocks following one or two styles direct onto the cloth.

There's various technique of traditional printing you can find and of course, the one that has a close meaning to me is 'Batik Canting'. Batik, a wax resist technique is considered one of the oldest printing technique for textile.

Although Malaysian Batik ( mostly from East Coast area) apply Batik Terap or Batik Cap as main technique, but I find both  Batik Canting and Batik Terap has a strong significance reflecting the character of Batik Maker themselves.

Batik canting has more personal touch and works as a form of art therapy to those who can understand and appreciate it's process.

Inspired by the great Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai - The Great wave, I started to apply my style of stroke and translate it into a Dunia Motif product, Ombak Shawl. Its reflects how I bring my passion from one phase to another. I dedicated this Ombak piece to you out there that consistently struggle and striving to go through tough journey in life.

'You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf.' -Jon Kabat-Zinn
